Signal de Botrange - the highest point of Belgium 694 m
Signal de Botrange:
When peaked: 16.04.2024
Distance: max 50m + 6m extra climb, 1 min
What to do if you think the highest point is too low? Belgium has solved this by constructing an artificial mound and stone steps, with a stone at the top marking the country’s highest point. By climbing the steps to the top, you can reach an elevation of 700 meters, and Signal de Botrange is achieved.
In addition to this place, we visited the highest points of the Netherlandsand Luxembourg during the same day, as the total driving distance between these locations is only about 90 km and takes approximately 1.5 hours.
Starting point and parking: 50.501566, 6.093218
- free road and parking
Before embarking on the “demanding” conquest of the summit, it was a good idea to take a coffee break and wait for the weather to clear up a bit. There is plenty of parking available at the aforementioned location, and it is also accessible by bus. The summit is located right next to the parking area, and the stairs are easy to spot from the car.
Next to the parking area, there is also a restaurant. More information can be found on the Le Signal de Botrange website.
The rain stopped just in time and after climbing just a few steps, we found ourselves at the highest point in Belgium!
There is another stone located behind the stairs.
After visiting Signal de Botrange, we decided to explore the surrounding area a bit more. We discovered some charming boardwalks and took a short walk despite the strong wind and rain. It seems there’s also a ski trail during the winter!
To our surprise, a Tour de France-related cycling event had also been organized at the location at the same time, and we received also water bottles as souvenirs. We later looked up more information about it on theMont Netflixin website.
